Dan Rodrigues began his journey in Orange County, born and raised in Southern California. From an early age, he showed curiosity and aptitude for technology. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Washington for one year studying computer science, then transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he earned a B.S. in Computer Science by 1998.
Early in his career, Dan worked at Visio Corporation as an applications engineer and then moved to RealNetworks as a software engineer. These roles helped build his technical foundation and sharpened his understanding of large-scale digital systems.
Early Ventures: From Scour to Skematix Laying the Digital Foundation
In 1997, he co-founded Scour, a pioneering search engine for music and video sharing that quickly attracted over 10 million users and raised significant venture funding. This early entrepreneurial success established Dan as a digital innovator.
By 2001, Dan co‑founded Skematix, a Southern California-based technology consulting firm focused on healthcare systems and medical billing software. As managing partner, he began building tools tailored to independent clinical practices, laying the groundwork for his next ventures.
In 2004, Dan launched Kareo, driven by a clear vision: make medical billing simple and accessible for small and mid-sized healthcare providers. Under his leadership as CEO, Kareo developed a cloud-based platform combining practice management, electronic health records (EHR), and billing services, serving tens of thousands of providers across the U.S. by the late 2010s.
In 2021, Kareo merged with PatientPop to form Tebra, positioning the company as an all‑in‑one operating system for independent healthcare practices. As Chief Executive Officer and Co‑Founder, Dan Rodrigues leads a platform that integrates scheduling, billing, analytics, marketing, telehealth, and more, serving over 100,000 providers and impacting 90 million patients nationally.
Scaling Success and Industry Recognition Under Dan’s Leadership
Headquartered in Irvine and Newport Beach, California, Tebra has grown to more than 1,000 employees, with satellite operations in Costa Rica and Los Angeles. The company continues scaling rapidly under Dan’s leadership.
Dan’s leadership has earned wide recognition. In June 2023, he was named one of the Top 50 Healthcare Technology CEOs by the Healthcare Technology Report for the second straight year. He’s also been recognized by Goldman Sachs as one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs, Ernst & Young as an Entrepreneur of the Year finalist, and by The Software Report as a Top 50 SaaS CEO in the U.S.

Building Tebra: A Powerful Platform for Practices
Tebra consolidates the fragmented tools that independent practices often juggle practice management, billing, marketing, patient communication, analytics, payments, and telehealth into one unified system. The platform reduces administrative overhead and supports modern patient engagement with online scheduling, automated reminders, and digital marketing features. It positions itself like Shopify in healthcare, an underlying layer enabling providers to focus on quality care rather than operations.
Under Dan’s guidance, Tebra has raised significant growth capital, achieving unicorn status in its Series B funding round. That capital infusion helped fuel product innovation, geographic expansion, and customer acquisition, bolstering its position as a market leader.
The Personal Side of the CEO
Dan resides in Newport Beach, California, with his wife and five young children , a hometown Orange County family man balancing entrepreneurship with everyday family life. He’s an outspoken advocate of the SoCal tech scene and often credits his resilience to values learned growing up locally.
Personally motivated by healthcare access and quality, Dan leads Tebra with empathy for independent practices, those often squeezed out by big systems and bureaucracy. He frequently shares his leadership philosophy in interviews: love what you do and where you do it; stay honest about your mission and north star; and persist with tenacity and resilience during tough times.
