Janice Bryant Howroyd was born on September 1, 1952, in Tarboro, North Carolina, as the fourth of eleven children in a modest household. After moving to Los Angeles in 1976, Janice Bryant Howroyd began her career as a secretary at Billboard magazine. Inspired by her experiences and driven by a desire to create more opportunities for others, she launched ActOne in 1978 with just $1,500 in savings and a small office space.

Her first client was her brother-in-law Tom Noonan, who trusted her vision and gave her the opportunity to prove herself. From that starting point, Janice nurtured ActOne Group into a dynamic company built on integrity, personalized service, and respect for people.

Scaling Into Global Success

What began as a small staffing firm has grown into ActOne Group, a global enterprise with operations in over 32 countries, serving more than 17,000 clients. The company now encompasses several specialized divisions, including AppleOne, Agile-1, AT-Tech, All’s Well, and ACT-1Govt.

ActOne Group’s revenue has been estimated in the billions, making it the largest privately held, woman-minority owned workforce solutions company in the United States. This extraordinary growth underscores Janice Bryant Howroyd’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
