Business education accreditation organization Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs has announced Michael Wiemer as its incoming President and Chief Executive Officer, bringing a veteran leader in higher education and accreditation into one of the sector’s most influential roles.
The appointment marks a significant leadership transition for the global accreditation body as business schools continue adapting to changing industry demands, technology-driven learning, and international collaboration. Wiemer will officially assume the role on July 1, 2026.
Michael Wiemer Brings Decades of Experience
According to the official announcement from ACBSP, Wiemer has more than 25 years of experience in business education, accreditation, and association leadership. He previously served in senior leadership positions at AACSB International, where he worked on global growth initiatives, member engagement, and strategic partnerships across international education markets.
Most recently, Wiemer served as the inaugural director of the Fintech Center at the University of South Florida Muma College of Business. In that position, he helped strengthen connections between academia and industry while supporting programs focused on financial technology and innovation.
ACBSP said Wiemer’s leadership background and international experience made him a strong choice to guide the organization during a period of growth and transformation in business education.
Dennis Brode, Chair of the ACBSP Board of Directors for 2025–2026, said the organization believes Wiemer’s experience aligns closely with ACBSP’s mission of advancing excellence in business education worldwide.
Focus on Global Growth and Innovation
Wiemer said he is honored to join ACBSP and work alongside member institutions, educators, and business leaders around the world. He also emphasized the organization’s long-standing commitment to teaching excellence, student success, and continuous improvement.
As President and CEO, Wiemer will oversee accreditation operations, member engagement, strategic planning, and global outreach efforts. The organization currently accredits business programs at more than 1,200 campuses across over 60 countries.
Founded in 1988, ACBSP is recognized for accrediting business education programs at the associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree levels. The organization focuses on teaching excellence and outcomes-based educational standards for institutions worldwide.
The leadership announcement comes at a time when business schools are increasingly expanding digital learning programs, industry partnerships, and international academic collaborations. Wiemer’s experience in accreditation and innovation is expected to support ACBSP’s continued global development and institutional partnerships in the years ahead.
