Vortex Imaging has raised $12 million in a financing round to accelerate regulatory clearance and commercialization of its computational ultrasound imaging platform.
The company announced today the closing of the funding round, supported by existing and new investors, including 10D Ventures, Entrée Capital, Harel T.E.C Partnership, Connecticut Innovations, and PhiFund Ventures.
According to the company, the funding will support product development, clinical programs, and regulatory activities as it prepares for commercialization. Vortex Imaging is developing a software-driven ultrasound system designed to provide advanced 3D volumetric imaging in clinical settings.
Led by CEO Tomer Ben David, the company operates from Givatayim, Israel, with additional offices in Sunnyvale, California. The platform uses computational image reconstruction technology and cloud-based GPU infrastructure to generate standardized volumetric ultrasound imaging.
Focus on Standardized 3D Imaging
Vortex Imaging said its technology is designed to reduce the variability commonly associated with traditional hand-held ultrasound systems. Conventional ultrasound imaging often depends heavily on operator skill and probe positioning, which can affect imaging consistency and workflow efficiency.
The company’s platform captures volumetric ultrasound datasets and reconstructs them into detailed 3D visualizations. Vortex Imaging aims to provide imaging capabilities associated with CT and MRI systems while maintaining the portability and accessibility advantages of ultrasound technology.
Because the system relies entirely on ultrasound waves, it avoids the use of ionizing radiation. The company said this makes the platform suitable for broader use across decentralized healthcare environments and outpatient clinical settings.
Commercialization and Regulatory Expansion
Vortex Imaging said the new funding will help accelerate regulatory clearance activities and support the company’s commercialization plans.
In a statement announcing the financing round, CEO Tomer Ben David said the company is focused on transforming ultrasound into a more standardized volumetric imaging solution capable of delivering advanced clinical insights directly at the point of care.
Vortex Imaging said its computational approach is intended to improve imaging workflow efficiency while reducing reliance on large imaging infrastructure.
Board Leadership Expansion
Alongside the financing round, Vortex Imaging also announced new additions to its board leadership team. Ori Hadomi, former CEO of Mazor Robotics and current Vice President of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships at Medtronic, was appointed Chairman of the Board.
The board will also include Chris Cleary, former Vice President of Corporate Development at Medtronic and former executive at GE Healthcare, along with Yahal Zilka, co-founder and Managing Partner at 10D Ventures, and Dr. Yael Grunbaum, Partner at Entrée Capital and Head of Entrée Bio.
The company said the expanded board brings expertise in medical imaging, healthcare technology, commercialization, and strategic growth as Vortex Imaging advances toward market deployment.
