Checking performance during a run or cycling session often means looking away from the road or trail. That brief distraction can interrupt focus and, in some cases, affect safety. French sports technology company ENGO is working to change that with smart glasses that display real-time performance data directly in an athlete’s field of view. Now, the company has secured fresh funding to expand its technology and strengthen its presence in the growing sports wearables market.

ENGO Secures €5.1 Million in New Funding

Grenoble-based ENGO has raised €5.1 million in a new funding round to accelerate the development of its augmented reality (AR) sports eyewear. The investment was led by Ventech, Odyssée Venture, and Bpifrance Amorçage Industriel, with Blueprint Partners acting as the company’s financial advisor during the fundraising process.

The funding marks an important milestone for ENGO as it continues to develop lightweight smart glasses designed specifically for athletes. The company plans to use the investment to grow its sports eyewear business while advancing its display technology through continued research and development.

Smart Glasses Built for Athletes

Founded in Grenoble, France, ENGO develops connected sports glasses that allow athletes to view essential performance data without taking their eyes off the road or trail. Instead of checking a smartwatch or bike computer, users can see key information directly within their field of vision.

The glasses are designed for endurance sports such as running, cycling, and triathlons. Depending on the connected device and application, athletes can access real-time metrics including speed, pace, heart rate, navigation, and other performance information while staying focused on their activity.

ENGO says its latest smart sports glasses weigh under 40 grams, making them among the lightest products in their category. The company combines lightweight design with Micro-OLED display technology to deliver a comfortable experience during long training sessions and competitions.

Funding Will Support Product Development

The newly raised capital will help ENGO strengthen its position in the sports technology market while continuing to improve its products. A key focus will be further miniaturizing its AR display technology, allowing future smart glasses to become even lighter, more discreet, and easier to wear.

The investment will also support ongoing product innovation as the company works to enhance the user experience for both professional and recreational athletes.

CEO Highlights the Company’s Vision

According to Éric Marcellin-Dibon, CEO of ENGO, the company’s goal is to make technology feel almost invisible during sports. Rather than distracting athletes with multiple devices, ENGO wants to provide essential information in a simple and natural way, helping users stay focused on their performance.

This vision continues to shape the company’s product strategy as it develops smart eyewear designed specifically for endurance athletes.

Growing Demand for Sports Wearables

The market for wearable sports technology continues to expand as more athletes look for tools that provide instant performance insights during training and competition. Smart glasses are becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to traditional watches and cycling computers because they allow users to monitor important data without constantly looking away from their surroundings.

ENGO has positioned itself in this growing market by focusing on lightweight, purpose-built eyewear rather than general consumer smart glasses. This specialized approach has helped the company establish a presence among athletes seeking practical technology that enhances performance without adding unnecessary complexity.

Looking Ahead

The €5.1 million funding gives ENGO additional resources to continue developing its AR sports glasses and expand its business. By investing in product innovation and advanced display technology, the company aims to make performance tracking more seamless for athletes around the world.

As demand for connected sports equipment continues to grow, ENGO is focusing on creating lightweight, easy-to-use smart glasses that help athletes stay informed without losing concentration. The latest investment places the company in a stronger position to continue innovating in the fast-growing sports technology industry.
