Enterprise software company Coupa has acquired Tonkean to strengthen its artificial intelligence and workflow orchestration capabilities for global trade and procurement operations.
The acquisition was announced as businesses across industries continue to invest in AI-powered automation tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual work in supply chain and procurement systems.
Coupa said Tonkean’s technology will help improve “agentic intake and orchestration” across its platform. The company plans to use Tonkean’s AI-native workflow technology to simplify how enterprises manage procurement requests, approvals, supplier coordination, and other operational processes.
Tonkean Brings AI-Native Workflow Technology
Founded in 2015 by Sagi Eliyahu and Barak Binyamin, Tonkean developed a platform focused on intake management and workflow orchestration. Its no-code system allows businesses to automate internal operations without requiring complex software development.
Before the acquisition, Tonkean already worked with Coupa through the Coupa App Marketplace. Some enterprise customers used the platform to automate procurement processes and improve workflow visibility.
Coupa stated that the acquisition supports its broader “Agentic-as-a-Service” strategy, which focuses on using AI agents to assist buyers and suppliers with business operations.
The company also said its network currently connects more than 3,500 buyers and over 10 million suppliers worldwide. By integrating Tonkean’s orchestration technology, Coupa aims to improve automation across this large global network.
Growing Focus on Enterprise AI
The acquisition reflects increasing competition among enterprise software companies to expand AI-driven automation capabilities. Businesses are adopting AI tools to handle repetitive tasks, improve workflow coordination, and reduce delays caused by manual approvals and disconnected systems.
Coupa has recently increased its investment in AI technologies. Earlier in May 2026, the company also announced the acquisition of Rossum, an AI-based document processing platform. Industry analysts say procurement and supply chain operations are becoming a major focus area for AI adoption as companies look for faster and more efficient ways to manage global operations.
Neither Coupa nor Tonkean disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition.
The companies have not announced any immediate changes for existing customers, partnerships, or product availability. However, Coupa indicated that Tonkean’s orchestration technology will become part of its expanding AI platform for enterprise spend management and trade operations.
The deal marks another step in Coupa’s push to build more automated and AI-supported business systems as enterprise demand for workflow automation continues to grow globally.
