Neal Rickner leads Airloom Energy, a company with its headquarters in Laramie, Wyoming, and California-based leadership that’s redefining wind power for American communities eager for reliable, homegrown energy. From the vast plains of the Midwest to the rugged landscapes of the West, his direction is delivering a smarter approach to wind turbines, one that cuts costs, boosts output, and fits seamlessly into the practical needs of everyday Americans.

His Early Journey

Neal Rickner’s path began with hands-on lessons in grit and teamwork from his days as a U S Marine, where he mastered thriving under pressure and making smart calls in challenging spots. That foundation carried him into public service in the U S Senate, sharpening his knack for cutting through obstacles and delivering real outcomes for people back home. These early chapters weren’t mere stepping stones; they built a leader who knows how to unite diverse groups and push projects forward, much like steering a team through the uncertainties of rural America’s energy challenges.

Transitioning to the private sector, Neal spent close to a decade at Google and its innovative arm, Google[x]. There, he climbed to Chief Operating Officer of Makani, a daring initiative with Alphabet and Shell aimed at airborne wind energy. Imagine guiding teams to create turbines that flew like kites high in the sky, tapping into stronger, more consistent winds. Neal drove the effort forward, securing over $50 million in funding and leading to a spin-out with ambitious revenue targets in the billions and strong margin goals of around 25%. It was real-world work overseeing engineers, locking in investments, and moving prototypes from concepts to tests, which showed him firsthand how bold ideas succeed when paired with solid execution.

Steps into Energy

Prior to Airloom, Neal served as CEO of BridgeTek Energy, a worldwide leader in battery systems and software that streamlines power storage for businesses. He managed global operations, ensuring these solutions powered everything from Texas factories to California charging networks, making energy more dependable and user-friendly across the U S. He also acted as Managing Partner at Elevation Ventures, investing in promising startups in energy and transportation that supported America’s drive for cleaner infrastructure. With more than 25 years across energy, defense, and industry, Neal’s experience mirrors the backbone of American innovation, from tech labs in Silicon Valley to strategic funding decisions.

In November 2023, Neal stepped in as CEO of Airloom Energy, aligning perfectly with his passion for game-changing technology. Launched in 2020 with its Wyoming HQ in Laramie and California leadership ties, Airloom is transforming large-scale wind energy through a clever, straightforward turbine design. Rather than the giant blades common in today’s wind farms, which drive up expenses and logistics, Airlooms approach uses smaller, human-scale parts to produce megawatts efficiently. These turbines are lighter, more affordable to make, and simpler to move, suiting tough locations like remote Texas spreads or Wyoming ridges.

How He Leads Today

Neal steers Airloom like a seasoned guide on a long trail: calm, team-oriented, and zeroed in on results. He frames his work as directing a skilled group to deliver utility-scale wind at very low costs, leaning on approachable technology that’s easy for teams to build and maintain. Drawing from his Marine training and Google[x] intensity, he empowers his people to test quickly and learn from setbacks. This shows up in tangible steps, like pilot sites breaking ground and hardware reaching the field by early 2025, with their kilowatt-scale prototypes advancing steadily.

His approach comes through clearly in his open LinkedIn updates, like notes on launching a new phase of tough, dependable energy or marking hardware milestones. Neal skips the flash, focusing on updates that connect with American workers and backers who prize honesty. He’s right there with the team, using his operations know-how to ramp up manufacturing at the Wyoming HQ and draw investments of over $18 million, including a key $4 million seed round from names like Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, and MCJ Collective. This capital drives growth suited to U S priorities, from supporting military sites to energizing rural areas.

Neal’s emphasis on efficiency speaks directly to Americans grappling with energy costs. Airlooms turbines pack more power into less space, vital for farm-heavy states like Iowa or Kansas. They perform in gentler winds and out-of-the-way spots, unlocking areas once passed over. Echoing his Makani days, Neal adapts proven scaling tactics to onshore wind, supporting U S manufacturing revival and self-reliance in power.

Major Wins So Far

Neal’s career shines with successes that have shaped multiple fields. At Makani, he turned vision into progress, achieving a spin-out with bold growth projections. Leading BridgeTek, he expanded battery tech critical to U S grids and vehicles, enhancing storage efficiency nationwide. Through Elevation Ventures, his backing helped energy newcomers reach the market, spurring jobs and advancements.

At Airloom, Neal is advancing a turbine that drops costs without skimping on power. By 2025, pilots were rolling out, with groundbreakings and deployments signaling momentum toward a fresh energy standard. Rooted in Wyoming’s hardworking spirit, the company draws major funding that underscores trust in its path. For Americans, Neal’s efforts mean steadier power prices, thriving local jobs, and secure energy amid global shifts.

His Personal Approach

Neal stands out for his down-to-earth style in a tech-driven field. Tied to California leadership while rooted in Wyoming operations, he engages thousands on LinkedIn by spotlighting team efforts and steady wins. His involvement with the Council on Foreign Relations adds depth, linking energy to national strength, but he stays relatable, no jargon, just progress. Neal’s Way is about lasting value: energy that stands firm for communities, from service members to households. It’s the reliable guidance of someone building a family enterprise for tomorrow, making U S energy simpler, cheaper, and proudly domestic.

Neal Rickner’s arc from Marines and Senate to Google[x] and Airloom weaves a tale of a leader converting big visions into dependable gains. Airloom, under his steady hand, stands as a promise of smart, clean energy tailored to America, boosting efficiency and strength one turbine at a time.
